The Account Director’s role is to manage and develop the projects within their client portfolio profitably and efficiently, to exceed client expectations and ensure client tenure.
As the Account Director your duties will be to:
Be responsible for the profit maximisation and development of all accounts within the group through the formulation and the implementation of a clear strategy together with strict financial controls;
Work with the Editor, for the overall creative direction of the account – in particular, ensuring that client objectives are met;
Be responsible for planning the timescales and resources for each project plus longer term creative and account planning through client away days and creative reviews;
Achieve growth targets;
Ensure achievement of plan against strategy and updating it as necessary. The performance of the Editors, Project Co-ordinators and the PA are to be appraised formally on an annual basis. An interim appraisal at six months should be given so that any areas of concern can be addressed before the formal review;
Set the budget for each specific project;
Be responsible for staff management and development within the company policies and IIP principles;
Manage salary increases to all staff on their team within the agreed company guidelines;
Ensure that communication between all departments and clients is effective and to arbitrate in the cases of disputes.
To be successful as an Account Director you will have the following skills and experience:
Written communication skills – ability to produce accurate and clear reports for client use;
Verbal communication skills – ability to present confidently and effectively;
Full knowledge of Powerpoint;
Competency and full understanding of Excel.
Understanding of the publishing and content channel processes – from creative inception, through to production and distribution;
Ability to effectively negotiate with clients and suppliers;
Full understanding of all cost lines.
